Notes from Children & Family Ministries

Notes from Children & Family Ministries

We have special events planned for the whole family during the Advent season. Join us for Christmas Caroling and a Birthday Party for Jesus on Sunday, December 13th. We will meet at church at 3:00 and then head out to a nearby nursing home to sing our favorite Christmas carols to the residents. Afterwards, we will meet back at the church for our Birthday Party for Jesus with refreshments and activities for the children.

You won't want to miss our Christmas Eve Family Worship Service at 5:00pm. Come sing carols, watch the St. Mark's Children's Choirs perform and hear the story of the birth of Jesus - all in a format geared for young children. It is such a special time of year as we celebrate The Newborn King. We hope you find time in all the hustle and bustle of our busy lives to enjoy family and remember the reason for the season.

December 2009: Giving & Receiving

"God provides us with enough. We can share from our bounty."
Paraphrased from Deuteronomy 26

This month in Chapel we will learn about giving and receiving. We will talk about giving for the joy of giving, not with the idea of getting something in return. We will also discuss appreciating all the things that we receive.

Frosty Giving Tree

All families are invited to give new gloves, mittens or hats for The Methodist Home for Children. They will give these gloves, mittens and hats to children who are in need during the holidays. We collect these and hang them on our Frosty Tree during the month of December. The tree will be located in the foyer of the Preschool.

Advent Lessons and Lunch

You are invited to attend 'Advent Lessons and Lunch'. We will meet in Anderson Hall (across from the Sanctuary) each Wednesday in December from 12:15 – 1:15.  We will use the book Wesley and the Quadrilateral: Renewing the Conversation to stir new conversation among us as we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. Please bring a bag lunch – dessert and beverages will be provided. Childcare is available upon request.

Joyful Generosity

The members of St. Mark's had a dream to renovate our facility (including the Sanctuary, Narthex and Anderson Hall) to make it more welcoming, energy efficient, and accessible for everyone. This dream sent us on a journey through months of research and planning, and finally a four-week Renovation Campaign. On November 22nd, we celebrated the end of the campaign and our joyful generosity. Our congregation has pledged over 2.1 million dollars! Watch with us over the coming months as our dream becomes a reality.
